General effect

CleanFLow comprises of a unit that passes a low energy electromagnetic field into a liquid flowing through a pipe via the transmission of a pulse of electricity through a coil wrapped around the pipe. The electromagnetic field is transmitted and then absorbed by the product as it passes through the pipe. The resultant absorbed electric field causes important but subtle changes to take place in the water chemistry of the fluid.

The structure of water is highly complex and mainly dictated by constantly changing hydrogen bonding structures. The differing water structures vary significantly between the type and constitution of the water and are heavily dependent on presence and types of individual ions, solutes and retained particles. Water is essentially dipolar and hence the molecules are always intermittently linked in different constructions by hydrogen bonds. The preferred structure may be a six molecule bound arrangement or a 124 molecule clathrate (spherical) arrangement.

As hydrogen bonding is so charge sensitive the addition of an external electric field can readily be understood to change this subtle framework of continually fluctuating hydrogen bonded structures. In doing so this has key ramifications for the structures surrounding dissolved solvated ions and hydrated structures including their solubility.

hydrogen bonding

The generation of an appropriately defined electromagnetic field, resulting from the specific design of the generated electric pulse through the coil, is key to producing the desired effect in the liquid fluid. In the event that the field is not suitably generated to fit the requirements of the particular fluid and its flow behavior, then no effects will be produced at all as a result of the transmission of the field into the liquid medium. It is this important understanding of the wave harmonics that underpins SmartFlow’s expertise in this Technology.

The application of the correctly designed electromagnetic field subtly alters the nature and strength of the dipolar and ionic charges in the liquid with the resulting effects that the hydrogen bonding water structures are modified and as a result the mechanism of solvation and the hydration of the solvated species in the aqueous solution are modified. This primarily has the effect on the solvation and morphology of the solvated species leading to different quarternary structures being formed with modified hydration and solubility behavior.

The Richardson-Effect.

Richardson effect smartflow cleanflow technology

So SmartFlow alters structures and solubility of the flow but there is another effect that changes the flow behavior of the liquid. The effect is known as the Richardson effect. When a flow goes through a pipe, the speed of the flow is higher in the middle. At a higher speed, there is less chance of building up deposits. When a CleanFlow pulsation is introduced in the flow, the speed at the borders is increased. As a result the formation of deposits is dramaticaly reduced and existing deposits will be removed.
